Obituary Condolences

LANNIE (VALVERDE)

LUCAS

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gridley for Lannie (Valverde) Lucas, 59 of Nicholasville, Kentucky. On July 22, 2009 in Lexington, Nicholasville, Kentucky Lannie went home to be with our Lord and Savior after a year long battle with cancer.

Lannie was born in Gridley, California on January 17, 1950. She graduated from Biggs High School, where she was a cheerleader, in 1968. While working and attending Butte Community College she met Richard (Dick) L. Lucas. They married in February 1973. She willingly accompanied Dick from San Diego to the Philippines and back. His job with NCIS took them to Southern Maryland, living in Waldorf for almost 20 years. During that time Lannie was the team mom for several Little League Teams, helped with school advisory committees and was the Vice President of the La Plata High School Show Troupe Boosters Club becoming like a second mother to several troupers. Lannie resigned an Assistant Manager position with the Bombay Co. store at the St. Charles Towne Center upon moving to the Bluegrass area of Kentucky, where two of her children found homes following graduation from Asbury College.

Lannie will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Her smile lit up a room whenever she entered. She never met a stranger, and her winning personality won her immediate friends. Lannie loved people and was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Lannie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Nazario and Luz (Ramirez) Valverde and Sal and Sara (Rodriguez) Espana; and her father, Raymond Valverde.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Lucas of Nicholasville, KY; two sons, R. Brian and wife, Jennifer R. Lucas of Nicholasville, KY and Mark D. and wife Rachel A.D. Lucas of Bel Air, MD; one daughter, Kristen L. Lucas of Nicholasville, KY and Kristen's fiancé, Josh Hildebrand of Cynthiana, KY. She is also survived by her sister, Peggy Bascom and husband Greg Bascom of Atascadero, CA, a brother, Raymie S. Valverde and wife Teresa Valverde of Biggs, CA; and five grandchildren, Lauren G. Lucas and Nicholas (Nico) B. Lucas of Nicholasville, KY, J. Manuel (Manny) Lucas, Lia A. Lucas, and Audrey A. Lucas of Bel Air, MD; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

All her family and friends will miss her terribly, but know she is now in a better place without the pain and suffering she courageously endured this past year. Lannie we love you!

A Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2009 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.

Services were held in Nicholasville, Kentucky on Saturday, July 25, 2009.

Interment will be held at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery.

Contributions in memory to Lannie's Ladies Fund, c/o First Southern National Bank, P.O. Box 430, Nicholasville, KY 40356 are suggested by the family.

Arrangements are entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
