LARRY LONG

A funeral service will be held for Lawrence Long, 79 of Chico, on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on Palmetto Ave. Larry passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at a local care facility.

He was born August 26, 1928 to Babe and Valie Long in Seminole, Oklahoma. At age 17 he moved to California and started working for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph as a lineman. In 1982 he retired as a supervisor after 35 years with the company. He married Wanda Donahoo in 1949 in Vallejo and from 1952 to 1956 served in the Air Force.

Larry was a reserve officer with the Butte County Sheriff and was also a member of the Butte County Mounted Sheriffs Posse. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of his horses.

His survivors include his wife of 58 years, Wanda of Chico; daughter, Kelly (Roger) Carper of Chico; son, Stephen (Debra) Long of Paradise; five granddaughters, Erin, Dana, Brittany, Bailey and Brooke; sister, Pauline Dunn of Napa; brother, Clyde Long of Oklahoma. Larry was preceded by his brother, J.B. Long and two sisters, June Whidden and Elwanda Harper.

Donations may be made in his memory to the First Baptist Church, c/o the Brusie Funeral Home which is handling the arrangements.
