LORAN SORENSON Loran Wilson Sorenson, 99, passed away peace-fully Jan. 26, 2018 at the Salt Lake Veterans Home after an 18 month struggle following a stroke. Loran was born October 3, 1918 in Egin Bench, ID to Joseph Leonard and Annie Elva Johnson. He was the youngest son of 12 children, all having preceded him in death. Loran spent his growing up years in Idaho, Utah, and California. He served an LDS mission to the Central States. He married Pearl Velma Martin in 1943 and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Dad served in the US Navy during WWII. Loran and Pearl were the proud parents of 14 children, most of whom were raised in Chico, CA. Henrietta, (Bob) Kasper (deceased), Thelma (Gene) Scott of Chico, Ed (Arla) Hendricks of Salt Lake City, Lowana (Bob) Morgan, of Kooskia, ID, David (Marcia) of Boise, ID, Wendell (deceased), Janice (Jack) Cargyle/ Megorden of Borrego Springs, CA, Stephen (Janet) of Grass Valley, CA, Glenn (Chris) of Oroville, CA, Dennis (Susie) of Chico, Rick (Pam) of Chico, Jan (Cindie) of Chico, Carlene (Todd) Claflin, of Salt Lake City, UT, and Darlene (Robert) Glazier, or Orem, UT. Pearl passed away in November 1980. Loran married Claudette Purvis, bringing four more children, Jeri, Claudelle, Thomas and Gene. He and Claudette resided in Sacramento, California until her death in 2008. Loran moved to Chico and lived with a son, Jan and Cindie in the family home until 2016. Loran owned and operated Sorenson Moving and Storage for 37 years, traveling up and down the state of California. Loran's great love was the gospel of Jesus Christ, and loved teaching the gospel to anyone who would listen. He had a huge impact on his children and grandchildren, and instilled faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Loran loved to give service and help those in need. He had a soft heart for those who struggled in life. Loran was a great example of healthy living, constantly reading and researching the best health food supplements. The Sorenson family would like to thank all who served our dad these past several months, especially workers at the William E. Christoffersen Veterans Home, in Salt Lake City, UT. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 735 West East Avenue, Chico, CA at 9:00 A.M. There will be a viewing Friday evening prior, at the same location from 6-8 pm. Interment and graveside service will follow at the Glen Oaks Memorial Park, 11115 Midway, Chico, CA. Funeral services are under the direction of Affordable Mortuary.
