Lorraine E. (Hoyer) Birtcil Obituary
LORRAINE E. BIRTCIL (HOYER) Lorraine E. Birtcil passed away on September 18, 2015. Her life began 94 years ago on June 9, 1921 in Ft. Benson, Montana. Lorraine moved to California with her family in her early school years. She lived in Round Mountain, Ca. with her parents Wesse and Leah, and 4 brothers, Howard, Ray, Art and Chuck. They managed and worked a large farm and ranch. It was on the ranch that she learned the value of a dollar, and the hard work that was required to earn one. Following her school years, Lorraine (Hoyer) met Ed Birtcil while she was working at a soda fountain in Redding, Ca. It was not entirely coincidental that he became thirsty In Redding after driving his delivery truck from Chico several times a week. There was that cute girl who worked behind the counter. Ed and Lorraine later married in 1941, he served in the Army while she raised 2 of their 3 sons, Chuck and Edd. After Ed's military discharge, another son, Steve was born and the family of 5 lived in their new home on East 2nd Ave in Chico. Prior to Lorraine's move to Asst. Living, she lived In the family home for 67 years, Dad did not want Mom to work outside the home while "the boys" were young. When the youngest son (Steve) was well Into his teens, she began working at "The Fair Store" in Chico, and later she worked in Insurance offices in town. Most recently, Lorraine worked 19 years as a "Demo" person at Costco in Chico. She enjoyed this position because she was able to keep in touch with her many friends and get paid for It. To many of the Costco employees she was lovingly called "Mom". To her 6 grandchildren, Brent, Christy Loran, Brian, Ian and MarieAnna and 16 great grandchildren she was loveable GiGi To others she was your best friend, soft shoulder and advisor. Her daughters in law, Judy and Susan Birtcil, were her protectors, companions, travel mates and fashion shoppers. They provided their mother- in- law with care, love, and attention to her every need. Lorraine was preceeded In death by her husband Ed, mother Leah, father Wes Hoyer, and all 4 brothers. Her family Is very grateful for the quality of care provided by the staff and management at Windchime of Chico and Butte Home Health Hospice. In rememberance of Lorraine, donations may be made to the Torres Shelter in Chico. This is a charity where she helped prepare and serve meals on many occasions.
