M. RUTH ADAMS Obituary
M. RUTH ADAMS M. Ruth Adams, 92, longtime resident of Chico, entered into rest Friday morning, Oct. 19, 2012, at her home. Born in Willow, Oklahoma to John Robert and Clarice (Singley) O'Connell, she attended and graduated from Norman High School in Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma University. She married Jack Donnell Adams in 1943 in Mangum Oklahoma, later moving to Mill Valley, California in 1947; finally settling in Chico in 1950. Ruth was a homemaker and an exceptionally talented seamstress, fashioning clothing for numerous prominent women in Chico and was the alterations specialist for Betty's and the Fashion. She replicated a vintage dress from Anne Bidwell's era for the Las Senoras women, official hostesses of the City of Chico. Besides sewing, Ruth enjoyed crocheting, silver jewelry making, collecting recipes, hummingbirds, doing "word-search" puzzles, camping and traveling in their trailer, fellowshipping with friends, but most of all, coming home to her family. She was a devout Christian, served as church organist, and had many friends while attending Esplanade Baptist Church, Grace Brethren, and Evangelical Free Churches. Survivors include her two daughters, Lynette Otis of Sacramento and Mandy (Rick) Robins of Chico; grandchildren, Kate (Matt) Peterson of Nevada City; Luke, Micah and John (Kimie) Robins of Chico; Michael Haleva of Sacramento; great-grandchildren, Alex, Elizabeth and Emma Peterson of Nevada City; and Olivia and Ellie Robins of Chico. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, John and Clarice; her brother, Thomas Brian O'Connell; her son, John Robert "Bob" Adams; and daughter, Karen LaVerne Adams. Ruth, "Mom," "Mothra," "Uoo-Hoo," "Big Sparkle Grandma," "Grandma Ruthie," "Ma Adams," will be sorely missed by her family, friends and little dogs, "Timmie" and "Mac." A memorial fellowship will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at Church on the Esplanade, 1119 Esplanade in Chico. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to East Ave. Church, in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. Condolences can be sent online at nbcfh.com.
