Marjorie O. Drake Obituary
MARJORIE O. DRAKE 1922-2017 Marjorie "Marge" Drake passed away peacefully in her home on December 19, 2017 with her loving children by her side. Marge was born in Amarillo, TX on December 30, 1922 to Raeburn and Ethel Kizer. She was the oldest of their 4 children. In 1942 she married John Drake. They both worked for Lockheed Aircraft during the war where Marge was one of the famous "Rosie the Riveters" building bomb bay doors on B-17's. In 1964, she and John opened the Country Smorgy Restaurant in Oroville. They served their famous fried chicken to the community for 23 years before John's passing in 1987 and Marge's retirement in 1988. In 2002 she fell in love with Rawland "Bob" Strang. They were married in 2005. On Sundays you would find them in their seats in the Oroville Christian Church where they were devoted members. Marge and Bob were like young newlyweds for their entire marriage until Bob's passing in 2014. Marge enjoyed many travels around the world. Family trips to Hawaii, the British Virgin Islands, Europe, Mexico, and camping in the mountains were her favorite places to go. Marge enjoyed many hobbies, but time with her family was always her favorite. She had a special and unique relationship with each of her siblings, her children and their spouses, her Grandchildren, and her Great Granddaughter. She is survived by her brother Olin Kizer, her children, Janice Staller and Charles Drake and daughter in law Judy Drake. Granddaughter Ashley Armstrong and her husband James. Grandson Jonathan Drake. Great granddaughter Reese Armstrong. Marge's passing leaves a huge void in our lives. She will be missed by many. A graveside memorial service will be held in Beaumont CA at a later date this Spring.
