Mary Jane (Janie) Brown

1942 - 2011 Obituary Condolences
MARY JANE (JANIE) BROWN

Janie Brown, passed away at home, with family at her side, on 9-29-11, at the age of 92. She was a compassionate nurse, wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by everyone who knew her.

She was born Mary Jane Hays in Gilmore City, Iowa, attended nurses training at Saint Luke's Hospital in Des Moines Iowa and came to Pasadena California after graduating, to work as a pediatric nurse. She married Gary Brown while he was on leave from the navy, on 10/4/42. This October 4 would have been their 69th anniversary.

She worked in hospitals near naval bases in Ottumwa and Norfolk Virginia while Gary was in the Navy Air Corps. After World War II, they settled in southern California. Gary worked for the telephone company and Janie continued her nursing career in clinics, doctor's offices and home health.

Janie and Gary loved dancing, camping, fishing and traveling with family and friends. Janie was a fun-loving, bright, discerning, and tender woman with many talents. She made clothes for the entire family, costumes, quilts, doll clothes, sweaters and delighted in making toys for her grandchildren. She cooked wonderful meals with what seemed to be little effort, played piano and enjoyed singing. She is survived by her husband Gary, son Doug (Karin), daughter Debbie (Tom) Lindberg, and four grandchildren: Colby Brown, Callie Brown Clifford, Eli Lindberg, and Arley Lindberg-San Martin.

Per Janie's request there will be no services. Donations can be made to Paradise Hospice. Arrangements entrusted to the Neptune Society of No CA, Chico Branch.
