Obituary Condolences


Mary Beth Woodill Kosterman died Monday, October 20, 2008 at her home in Chico with her family by her side. She was born in Glendale, CA, on June 25, 1931. She grew up in Glendale on a dairy and cattle farm in the Santa Inez Valley. She met her husband Mark Kosterman in Beverly Hills, CA. They were married on September 12, 1953 at the old mission in Santa Barbara, CA. In 1957, they moved to Chico where they raised their family of six children. Mary was actively involved in Enloe Hospice and founded the Chico Chapter of Compassionate Friends. She was a long-time member of the Catholic Church. An artist and art lover, she painted landscapes in water color and acrylic. Mary loved traveling with her husband of 50 years, family and many friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her daughter Jennifer Beth Hughes in 1979 and husband in 2004. Among the survivors are her five children Kathy Alexander of Corvallis, OR; Therese Kosterman of Los Angeles; John Kosterman of Auburn, CA; David Kosterman of Sacramento, CA; Annette Ewanich; of Los Altos, CA; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They will miss her kind heart, her warmth, her sense of humor and her pies.

A memorial service will be held at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church at 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 23rd. A reception will follow the service at Springfield Manor Club House, 2050 Springfield Dr. Donations can be made to Enloe Hospice in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral home.
