Nancy Rose Derrick Moranville Obituary
NANCY ROSE DERRICK MORANVILLE Nancy Rose Derrick Moranville passed away peacefully in her sleep early Saturday morning January 30, 2016 at Brentwood Skilled Nursing Facility in Red Bluff where she was given excellent care by the Nurses and Staff as well as Dignity Health Hospice. Nancy was born an only child on Jan. 3, 1928 in Walla Walla, Washington to Wilbur and Gertrude York Derrick. She graduated from Orland High School in June 1946 and married the love of her life John Elwin Moranville on August 10, 1946 just after he returned from serving for the Navy in World War II. During that week of August 10-17th, two other couples and very dear friends Darrell and Mary Daniels Johnson and Blackie and Norma Howard Hughes were also married. The six of them stood up for each other and were lifelong friends. John and Nancy were married for 56 years when John passed from cancer. Nancy was a DFA Inspector for Duche Nut Company in Orland and Continental Nut in Chico until her retirement During those years, Nancy also sold Studio Girl Cosmetics and then Mary Kay. Afte going to work for Mary Kay, Mom was determined to win one of Mary Kays "Pink Cadillacs" and sure enough, she did. Boy was she ever proud of that car and for good reason. At a very young age Mom was religious about applying the different foundations and creams that she sold as well as advocating against sunbathing so nobody was surprised when she won the Pink Cadillac because even at 88 years young, her skin looked as young as that of a 30 year old ... which sold her a lot of Mary Kay products. Nancy was also active in Orland Junior Women's Club and the Orland Women's Improvement Club in her younger years. After Nancy's oldest son Greg was deployed to Viet Nam, together with her husband John, Nancy formed a group of local friends who got together to bake and ship cookies to all the Orland Servicemen in Viet Nam at Christmas time. The endeavor was such a success and became so large in membership they then started shipping cookies to all Orland Servicemen on all holidays. John and Nancy raised their children in Orland and then moved to Chico in the early 1990s during their retirement at which time Nancy traveled with John throughout the US in their brand new 5th wheel and pickup. While living in Chico, they spent a lot of the winter in Palm Springs and every summer in Chester. While John and Nancy loved all of their trips, their most favorite trip was to Hawaii where they flew to Oahu, then cruised the Islands on a ship with their good friends Darrell and Mary Johnson in celebration of their 40th wedding anniversaries. Nancy is survived by her daughter Kathleen (Michael) Lyon of Red Bluff and sons Mark of Chico and Greg of Vancouver, Washington, her Grandchildren Richard & Matthew Lyon, Mason & Sawyer Moranville and her great -grandchildren Tanner, Rhett, Maycey, Miranda and Kellan. There will be a celebration of life for Nancy on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11:00am at the Federated Church in Orland. Funeral arrange-ments are being handled by Sweets Mortuary in Orland.
