Nathan Butterfield Obituary
NATHAN BUTTERFIELD Nathan Butterfield, 33, died on August 30 at his parents' home in Chico. His death was caused by a rare type of liver cancer called cholangiocarcinoma. If you or someone you know has suffered from an autoimmune disease, such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease, you are at a much greater risk of developing this terrible disease. For more information on Nathan's battle with this disease and how to recognize it early enough to avoid premature death: http://updatesonnathan.blogspot.com/ Nathan grew up in San Jose, CA and graduated from Independence High School in 1997. He started working at a local restaurant while a teenager. In his early 20's he became the youngest manager in the Florentine restaurant chain in northern California. In his late 20's Nathan discovered his true calling and set out on a path to become an elementary school teacher. He was passionate about helping children overcome the issues that he struggled with in school. Nathan completed his bachelor degree at National University while working full time with S and L Food Sales in Chico. Last fall he completed his student teaching at Neal Dow Elementary School. Nathan is survived by his parents, Rich and Vicki Butterfield (Johnson) of Chico, sister Amanda Butterfield of San Jose, grandmother Helen Butterfield (Delzell) of Chico, and fianc‚e Melissa Kee and her two wonderful children Mariella and Matthew. When first diagnosed with terminal cancer, Nathan's doctors encouraged him to make a list of the things he wanted to do before he died. He told Melissa that his list was already complete. He was engaged to the love of his life. He had experienced the joys of becoming a father to Melissa's children. He had achieved his dream of becoming a teacher. His life was complete.
