Obituary Condolences

Born on September 29, 1929 in a tent in Dickens, Texas and died August 1, 2009 in Sacramento after a short battle with cancer.

Nina spent most of her childhood growing up in California and graduating from East Nicholas High School in 1948. At age 20, she married her high school sweetheart, Willard Leland Brown. They recently celebrated their 50 wedding anniversary. Nina and Leland settled in Northern California after a short stay in Germany and Kansas. They lived in Auburn, Sutter Creek, Willows, Orland (where she worked for Duche Nut Company) and settled in Elk Grove in 1974. Nina loved flowers and spent many hours in her yard gardening. They were blessed to be able to do lots of traveling in their 5th wheel, cruises and other trips. She enjoyed socializing and family parties. Although she denied enjoying cooking, she did so constantly and never let family or friends go hungry!

Nina is survived by her husband, Leland; daughter, Connie Funke (Carl) of Willows; and her two special granddaughters, Rebecca Miller (Phillip) of Elk Grove and Rachel Weinrich (Ryan) of San Rafael. Nina will be remembered for her kindness and extreme generosity to her family and friends. She loved befriending everyone she met.

A celebration of Nina's life will be held at East Lawn Elk Grove Mortuary, 9189 E. Stockton Blvd. on Friday, August 7, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. There will be a private interment.
