OSCAR MARION HUFFMAN O.M. "Huff" Huffman, 97, of Orland passed away peacefully surrounded by his daughters and the loving staff at Windsor Chico Care on 1/13/18. Huff was born in Merced in 1920. After high school, he attended Cal Poly and completed their 3 year program in Aeronautical Engineering and Crop Production. He married his high school sweetheart, Bettye Jayne Randol, before joining the Navy in WWII. An Aviation Machinist Mate, he shipped out to the Pacific in 1944 aboard the USS Lexington, where he earned a presidential citation for heroism. Huff and Bettye were married for 65 years prior to her death in 2007. He is survived by his daughters and their families- Gerry, Dave, Rob Gire; Pat, Lindsay, Laura Paul; Shelley, Sam, Dan Notareus; Nancy, Ken, B.J., Terry, Casey, Kelsey Koch and 4 great grandchildren. Huff and Bettye moved to Orland in 1953 where he farmed crops in Plaza, becoming a 4-H leader and a School Board trustee. In 1966, they moved to the west side of Orland where his passion turned to orchards. A resourceful man, he was well-known for repairing and fabricating equipment using scrap metal and exceptional welding skills. He became the first Maintenance Supervisor for the Willow's insulation plant. After retirement, he enjoyed working with the John Taylor crew on special projects. He believed in hard work and keeping your word. Most importantly, he was a proud veteran and family man. Friends and family will miss his exceptional honesty and friendship. A memorial to celebrate his life will be held on Sat., Feb. 17, 2018 from 1:30-3:30 pm at Plaza School 7322 Co. Rd. 24, Orland. He will be interred with his departed Bettye in Merced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Orland Volunteer Fire Department. Online condolences may be sent to www.brusiefh.com
