Otto Herfi Obituary
OTTO HERFI Otto passed away, Sun., Aug. 16, at his home in Hamilton City at the age of 103. Otto was born in Michigan and brought to Calif. as an infant. His family settled in Germantown (now Artois) before moving to Hamilton City, where he eventually lived for over 102 years in a house he had built himself out of brick. Otto worked for area ranchers--picking fruit as far away as Auburn. He worked at Mare Island as a pile driver during the war, and eventually went to work for Holly Sugar Co. Retiring in 1977, after 32 years. He also worked part time as a bartender for the old B+B club, and was an asst. Fire Chief for many years for the H.C. Volunteer Fire Department. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, which he belonged to for 62 years. He loved spending time with his family on the weekends, telling them stories about H.C. in the early days. He remembered having a bank, doctor's office, and Movie Theater and traveled to Chico by horse and buggy. Otto was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie, as well as 10 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his son: Gary Coria (Nancy); Daughter: Diane Alberico; Stepdaughter: Sharon Talk (Hilry), and stepson: Mike Quadros (Karen); 4 granddaughters: Barbara, Susie, Kelly and Leslie; 6 great-grandchildren: Dillion, D.J., Kayla, Randy, Amanda, Katie, and 2 great-great-grandsons; Conley and Kasen. A graveside service for Otto will be held at Glen Oaks Memorial Park on Tues., Aug. 25 at 1pm. View obituary and send condolences online at brusiefh.com.
