Paula Marie Karch-Bethard Obituary

Paula Marie Karch-Bethard, passed away on June 9, 2011, with family at her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Paula was born to Charles and Helen Karch in Lynwood, CA on Oct. 11, 1953. She was the fourth of six daughters.

Paula was raised in Southern California, attending school, and forging close friendships that she cherished throughout her life. She attended Cal State Long Beach, receiving her Bachelor Degree in English, accomplishing recognition in the English Honor Society and outstanding Departmental Graduate of 1984.

Paula moved to Chico in 1986, attending CSUC, receiving her Single Subject Credential. She taught at Chico Jr. High and Durham High School for several years, before accepting a position with the D.A.'s office in Oroville until her retirement.

Paula was very active in her community, belonging to the Durham Park and Recreation District, Durham School Site Council, and the RCIA Team at St. John the Baptist Church. She also volunteered at KCHO public radio, which she thoroughly loved.

Paula leaves behind her beloved daughter, Ashley of Chico, and three step-children, Brandee, Will, and Ben. She also leaves behind her mother, Helen Karch of Chester, and her sisters, Cecilia Karch of Barbados, Louise Raya of Newport Beach, Diane Dowden of Lake Almanor, Margaret Karch of Placerville, and Bill and Lynda Tatum of Phoenix; many nieces; a nephew; cousins, and life long friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Charles and her sister, Teresa.

A Rosary will be said in her honor on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church in Chico. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church, with a reception to follow at the Durham Memorial Hall in Durham.

In lieu of flowers, Paula has requested donations to be made to the 's Foundation.

Paula always put others needs first, a true friend to her loved ones, and was strongly independent. She was a true Libra to the end.
