RALPH BYERS Ralph Earl Byers of Oroville passed away on Saturday January 6, 2018 at age 85 of natural causes with his wife Frances by his side. In 2003, he married Frances Butler of Oroville, who survives him. Other survivors include his sons, Steve Byers of El Cerrito and Andy Arrow of Brooklyn, New York, and three grandchildren; also step children Jerry and Teresa Cook, Ken and Lorna Butler and many other grand and great grand children. Ralph was born in Berkeley, CA. on April 26, 1932, to Henry and Eleanor Byers. He moved with his family to the Feather Falls area in the mid-1940s, where he attended classes in a one-room schoolhouse with his brother Warren. After graduating from Oroville High School in 1950, he joined the US Navy during the Korean conflict and served on the USS Merrick, a cargo ship headed for Seoul, South Korea and beyond, as part of "Operation Big Switch," a post-armistice prisoner exchange. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Oroville and settled with his wife and their children. As a member of the Treamsters he was employed as a logging, lumber and tanker truck driver during his career. In semi retirement he enjoyed a lot of social-izing as a courtesy clerk with Raleys. In retirement, he enjoyed golfing several days a week, socializing with friends and family. He loved to take cruises his favorite being the 14 day Alaska trip taken with his wife Frances. His most recent enjoy-ment was going to the Oroville Casinos for senior day. He was a member of the Native Sons and Eagles. Ralph is remembered by family members as a conscientious father, husband, and citizen. He never failed to acknowl-edge a family member's birthday or anniversary. He was proud of his military service, his country, and the Oroville community. Family members wish to acknowledge and extend their gratitude to those whose care and support were invaluable during Mr. Byers' long illness. Memorial will be Tuesday Jan. 16th 11:00 am at Scheer Memorial Chapel.
