Reva Deleice (Watkins) Gray Obituary
REVA DELEICE (WATKINS) GRAY August 7, 1916 - May 12, 2018 Reva was born at Davis Creek, California, between Alturas and the Oregon border. Reva's father ran the "Davis Creek Mercantile" store which still exists in Davis Creek under different owners. Reva rode to grammar school on her own horse. In the mid-1920s Reva's father, Charlie Watkins, got a $500.00 bonus from Montgomery Ward for selling barb wire in his store. This went to Reva toward her teaching degree at Chico State. Reva married Odie Gray in 1939 in Reno, Nevada before Odie joined the Navy for World War II. Reva's first job after graduation was teaching in Westwood, California, which was an active lumber camp at the time. Reva's brother Noel Watkins built Reva and Odie's house in south Chico. Bruce Gray was born in 1947. After Bruce was born Reva got a job with Chico Unified School District. She was principal at the old Bidwell School and taught at both the old and new Rosedale schools. Reva retired in 1983. She was with the school district about 35 years. Reva and Odie, later with Bruce, ran "Mini-Trippers" for senior travel. For 12 years over 100 short motor coach trips were sold and escorted. Many of the trips were to Nevada, some were for shopping and some were for shows and plays. Reva was able to go places and do things right up to her final day. She was a very happy person who really liked people. She had a very good sense of humor and led a long and happy life. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 14, 2018 at The Morning Thunder Restaurant. Please share your thoughts online at NewtonBracewell.com.
