Obituary Condolences


Beloved husband, father and grandfather. Richard Ferguson, age 80, passed away March 9, 2008. He was born January 27, 1928 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 28 years, retiring from active duty in 1974 as a Senior Master Sergeant. Following his military service he worked for the Social Security Administration in the Oroville office for seven years.

He was an active volunteer in various organizations throughout his life, including the Boy Scouts and Little League Baseball. In the Boy Scouts of America he served as an Assistant Scoutmaster and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. Following his retirement, he served with the Area Agency on Aging (Passages) and the AARP tax assistance for low income and elderly taxpayers, leading the Oroville organization for a number of years.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce. He is also survived by his two sons, Daniel and his wife, Sharon, and David. He has two grandchildren, Nicholas and Alexandria. Richard is survived by his two youngest brothers, Clifford and Marvin of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by brothers, James and Frank, and his sister Bonnie.

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 14, 2008 at 11 a.m. The service will be held at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oroville, where Richard worshiped from 1976.

Memorials may be made in Richard's name to either Calvary Lutheran Church or the Butte County Alzheimer's Association, 2105 Forest Ave., Suite 130, Chico, CA 95928.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Country Crest Nursing Home for the compassionate care provided to Richard during the final months of his life.
