Richard Sorling Obituary
RICHARD SORLING Richard Edward Sorling Sr., age 73 passed away July 19, 2016 at home, surrounded by his family. Rick was the middle child of Frank & Goldie Sorling. Born in Stockton, Calif. on May 10, 1943. Rick attended school in Stockton until the family moved to Los Angeles in 1958 where he graduated from Norwalk High School. At 18 yrs old he married Barbara Jones. He worked at Rockwell Aviation on the Apollo spacecraft. Moved to Oroville in 1969, where he was employed in the plumbing wholesale business in the Reno area, Grass Valley and Chico until 1985. Rick met the love of his life Julie Barrios in 1976 and they married in Carson City, Nevada on July 4th 1982. In 1985 he and his brother Frank opened up "The Car Company" Used Car Lot on Park Ave. until their retirement in 2006. In retirement he was able to pursue his love of fishing and traveling. His favorite place to fish was Hat Creek. Rick and Julie joined the Elks RV'ers in 2006 where they made many friends and traveled many places. Rick became the President from 2014 to 2016 of the group. Rick was also a member of several organizations; Masonic Lodge, Elks, Eagles and Shriners. He enjoyed many trips to Reno with friends. Rick was an avid hunter in his earlier years. Rick and Frank took many out of state trips to hunt. Rick also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles. He rode to Sturgis, South Dakota 3 times for the annual event. Overall Rick was a busy man enjoying life. Rick had many friends and business associates who respected his leadership qualities and charismatic personality. Rick is survived by his wife Julie of 34 yrs; his brother Frank (Louise) Sorling of Chico; daughters, Debbie (Paul) Taylor of Reno, Nv., Victoria of Chico; sons, Richard, Scott (Tonya) of Anthem, AZ; 10 Grandchildren; 2 Great-Grandchildren; Also his cousin Craig (Janice) Plotts of Chico; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Rick will be held on Thursday the 28th of July at Newton Bracewell Funeral Home in Chico at 11 am.
