1912 - 2011 Obituary Condolences

Robert Heimann, 98 yrs., born May 3, 1912 in Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at his home in Chico on January 21, 2011. Raised on a working farm, he was the eleventh child of Mary and Bernard Heimann.

When he left Nebraska he came to California by driving a car for a dealer. He met his future wife, Nina Fern Downing at a big band dance when they were set up by mutual friends. After being married on January 8, 1938 at St. Ann's Church in San Francisco, they lived there until 1945. For a while Robert worked in the shipyards of San Francisco. After that Robert started a painting contractor business and was the president of the Painting and Deocrators' Association. Nina had a beauty shop with her business partner, Alvina Cambell. After their second son was born they decided to leave San Francisco to raise their children in the country setting of Chico, California. After World War II he was invited to join the Army Core of Engineers as a Colonel to train the troops for jobs when returning to the States. He sailed to England on the last trip of the Queen Mary as a troop carrier. He then was promoted to Director of Civilian Labor in Germany. When he returned to Chico he started a long standing painting contractor's business.

The couple have three surviving children, Gerald Joseph Heimann, Douglas Arthur Heimann, and Joyce Ann Storz. He is survived by his younger brother, August Heimann of West Point Nebraska; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
