1934 - 2015 Obituary Condolences
ROBERT TOBIN RAUCHER Passed away March 10th in Chico, California after a long illness. Born on Christmas Day, 1934 in Greenwich Village, N.Y., Bob or "Toby" as he was later called, relocated to Los Angeles, CA in 1944 for his school years, then joined the Air Force Reserves at age 17 and was stationed at Edward AFB and duty in England as a medic during the Korean conflict. After returning to Los Angeles following his service, Toby pursued a career in radio broadcasting both at music and news stations and helped bring the Beatles to L.A. He married his first wife, Eleanor and had two children, Marla and Steven. A lifelong love of cars, particularly vintage Porsches led to his business, "The Old Volks Home", buying and selling Porsches, Volkswagens and creating the Cal Look Rubber parts. Active for 50 years in the Porsche Club of America and an early board member of the Porsche 356 Registry, he staged the first West Coast Holiday for the Registry. He restored the 17th Porsche built, called the Gmund Couple, which won honors at Pebble Beach. Toby married second wife, Laurie, and had daughter, Amy after moving to Butte Creek Canyon in 1988. He could be seen driving his midnight blue 356 Speedster all over Butte County. In his later years he became a collector of early chronometers and watches. Toby/Bob was a well known historian, literature collector and concourse judge in the Porsche community where he had many good friends. It is his great stories, his warmth, his humor, his wealth of wisdom, his child-like enthusiasm and joyfulness that will all be sorely missed by his children, Marla Osborne and husband Jay, Steven Raucher, Amy Raucher-Shaw and husband Byron, his sister Esther, his brother Reuben and wife Cheryl, his beloved grandchildren Gianna Raucher and Daringer Shaw, his daughter-in-law Louann, his nephews Jesse, Seth, Gabriel and Damian, his wives Ellie and Laurie, his good friend Grayce Burkitt and loyal caregiver, Patrice Poppleton. A Celebration of Life will occur at a later date. To view obituary and send condolences online go to NewtonBracewell.com.
