He attended Bishop Manogue High School and enlisted in the US Navy in 1965. He was stationed at Whiting field in Milton, FL and served on the Aviation Crash Crew Firefighting Squad. He received a letter of commendation for being at the top in his class. In 1967 Roger was transferred to Kodiak, AK where he completed his enlistment as an Aviation Boatswain's Mate. In 1985 he owned and operated his own barber shop, Cutting Loose, in Carson City. He retired from the business in 1988 and went to work at the Nevada State Prison as a Maximum Security Correctional Officer. In 1995 Roger moved to Chico with his wife, Cookie, and he took over management of Century Mini- Maxi Storage.

Roger loved to cook and create wonderful meals for friends and family. He also loved the outdoors and was an avid car lover. He owned over 45 cars in his lifetime and enjoyed them all. He found a new passion over eight years ago when he caught his first 40 pound salmon on the Sacramento River. From that time on fishing on the river became his passion and he looked forward to every season.

Roger married Ursula Scheer in 1967 and they had one son, Scott Giblin. They later divorced and in 1982 he married Cookie Peterson, who had four children, Raymond, Joy, Curtis and Chera. Roger and Cookie recently celebrated their 26th anniversary.
