ROY EDWARD SMITH Roy Edward Smith, born on January 23, 1931 to Dorothy Allison Matthews and Roy Clay Smith in El Paso, Texas. He attended school in Deming, New Mexico and excelled at sports. He played football for the University of Kentucky. He joined the Air Force and became a pilot. He met and married Donna O'Dell. They had 2 children; Terri Jean and Tamara Lee. During his career he was stationed at England AFB (LA), Yokota AFB (Japan), Turner AFB (GA) and Scott AFB (IL). He served 2 tours of service in Vietnam as an Air Refueling, Defoliation & Aeromedical Airlift Pilot. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (twice), the Air Medal, a Purple Heart, a Silver Star Medal and 2 Commendation Medals. He remarried twice, to Shirley Heath and Nadine Clark. He retired as a Major in the USAF and moved to Paradise, CA where he shared his life with Mary Jane Ashe. He enjoyed fishing, gold mining, and had a business selling kachinas and jewelry . Roy peacefully passed away on January 17th, 2015. He is survived by his 2 daughters, 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren . Thanks to the Willhite's for their support and Paradise Hospice. Memorial Services on March 14th in Deming, New Mexico.
