TRENA IRENE PLUNKETT Obituary
TRENA IRENE PLUNKETT

Our dear mother, Trena Irene Plunkett, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Thursday, May 3, 2012. She was 97 years old.

Mom was born in Riverbank, California on March 20, 1915, the sixth child of Hugh and Grace Phillips. The family lived in many different Northern California towns and cities such as Jackson, Lincoln, Nevada City, Roseville, Oakland and Berkeley as her father and brothers sought work. She graduated from Glad Tidings Bible Institute in San Francisco in 1938. During wartime, she worked at Cutter Laboratories in the blood plasma division.

Mom met the love of her life, Ed Plunkett in Nevada City while working at a little cafe, where Dad came to buy hamburgers and milkshakes. They eventually began to plan for their life together but World War II interrupted their plans. When Dad was called to report to Ft. Lewis, WA, they decided to get married right away. Following a quick wedding there in Ft. Lewis, Dad left for the South Pacific and was gone for 38 months. Mom faithfully waited for him, writing him letters and sending him pictures and care packages whenever she knew where he was.

Mom is survived by her three children, Kathi Hall and husband Larry of Springfield, Missouri, Ruth Ann Kenney and husband Jim of Chico, California, and Dan Plunkett and wife Shelley of Concord, California. In addition, she leaves behind seven grandchildren, Jeff Kenney, Amy Kenney Fagan, Heidi Jumper, Hillary Mason, Phil Plunkett, Chris Plunkett and Nick Plunkett. There are 13 great-grandchildren. Mom loved her family and cherished the times when we all could get together for reunions and special occasions.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Volney Phillips, Claude Phillips, Clyde Phillips and Cecil Phillips; and sisters, Eathele Paulsen and Bessie Coon. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home on Friday, May 11, 2012 from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Chico Cemetery.
