After a divorce, he met and later married Lynn on February 15, 1986. They lived in Yuba City for a number of years where Verner owned a Shell service station on Highway 20. Lynn and Verner lived happily together in Chico for 28 years, where they enjoyed golfing and traveling together. He was a local member of the Elks and Masonic Lodges.
