VERNON R. CARTER Vernon R. Carter passed away on 6/02/2018. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on 09/21/1923. Vernon moved to Hollywood, California with his mother and sister to live with his Uncle Jack, who was in the movies. Vernon himself was able to be an extra in several early movies. Vernon went to Occidental college in Pasadena. After a couple of years he enlisted in the Navy and completed 2 years, he was a gunner, and was stationed in the Philippines. Upon finishing his Navy obligation he returned to Occidental, and met his future wife Beverly Jean Carter, who he was married to for 70 years. Vernon graduated with a doctorate in education, which he was able to travel many places with his wife and small children. He moved to Oroville in 1987 and lived with his wife there for 26 years. Vernon and Beverly were instrumental in creating the Optimist Club of Oroville, which still is going strong today. He was an elected official to the board of directors for Parks and Recreation, was very community minded and he and Beverly lived a full and rewarding life in Oroville. Vernon is preceded in death by his wife Beverly Jean Carter who died 6/12/2017 on their 70th wedding anniversary. Also his daughter Deanna Russomano. He is survived by his son Bob Carter, grandchildren, Shanti, Kendra, Faith, Demitra, & Taylor, son-in-law, daughter in law, and 6 great grand child, also nieces and nephews. He was a great and kind man who touched many, and will be missed.
