BILL HILL

William "Bill" Lee Hill, 64, formerly of Chico, died February 17, 2009 in Crescent City, California. Bill was born July 14, 1944 in Philadelphia, Mississippi to William Curtis Hill and Lottie Lucille (Stuart) Hill. He was born two minutes after his twin brother Robert.

Bill joined the U.S. Air Force in 1963. He was stationed at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento and served in Vietnam as ground support for an AC-47 squadron. After his discharge, Bill worked for Wood Brother's Salvage in Sacramento, where he soon discovered his talent for selling carpet. After his first marriage and the birth of their two children, Bill moved his young family to Chico, where he went into partnership with Glenn Wood to open Wood Brothers Carpet in 1974. In 1993, Bill sold his interest in Wood Brothers and later managed the floor-covering department for Home Depot in Chico and Crescent City.

Bill loved to entertain and invite friends to his home for barbeques. He was well known as an excellent cook. He also had a green thumb and took pride in the lush landscaping he designed himself and lovingly cared for. He was a fan of football players Archie Manning and his two sons Peyton and Eli. One of Bill's claims to fame was that the young Archie Manning was the water boy for his high school football team in Drew, Mississippi. Bill was an ardent fan of country singer, Marty Stuart, who is his cousin. Bill had a special love for animals. He always had dogs, cats, birds, or all three. He raised Pomeranians for many years.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Chrisell Hill of Seattle, Washington; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Dorothy Hill of Las Vegas, Nevada and Bob and Linda Hill of Grass Valley, California; a niece, Robbi Hill-Corley of Las Vegas; nephews, Craig and Nathan Hill of Grass Valley; and grandnephews, Brent, Matthew and Andrew. He is also survived by his two beloved Pomeranians, Liza and Lacey.

Bill's parents and his son, James William preceded him in death. Bill had been in declining health since the passing of his son, in late 2006.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home and a reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Pomeranian Rescue Group in care of the funeral home. You may share your memories of Bill online at nbcfh.com.
