William Messick Obituary
WILLIAM MESSICK William Messick passed away on March 21, 2018 after a long journey to the end of Alzheimer's disease. Bill was born on November 17, 1938 in Yuba City, CA. His parents were Ted and Olga Messick. He attended local school, Yuba College, and graduated from CSU, Sacramento. After two years in the Navy, He continued his education while teaching and finishing his Master's degree at CSU, Chico. He taught in Vacaville and at Manzanita School in Butte County. Bill was the Superin-tendent/Principal at Franklin School for 30 years. He loved his job and enjoyed the Franklin School Community. The parents and staff were involved and supportive, but the kids were what he loved best of all. He knew every student's name. He played sports with them, visited with them, participated in class activities, and remembered then when they crossed paths years later. He had a large collection of ties and tie tacks for every occasion which were given to him by his kids over the years. He liked singing while he walked the corridors, and the jingle bells in December were on his shoes, no Santa's. His enthusiasm and energy at Franklin were apparent and every day greeted everyone with his smile. After retirement, Bill and Judy moved to Chico to be closer to their cabin in Prattville at Lake Almanor. Bill was never happier than with his sons, Ted and Joe, and their families. He spent all the time he could fishing and hunting with his sons, grandsons, and friends. They would spend days on the lake and streams, and all over the area on Jeep roads. Evenings were spent barbecuing and playing cards. Bill was happiest up there and loved being a host. His 4th of July pit barbecue was attended by over 100 friends and family, and featured an annual game of horseshoes. Bill is survived by wife Judy; son Ted and wife Karen, son Joe; grandchildren Logan, Blaine and wife Jennifer, Skylar, Ellie, Emma; and great-grandchildren Jasmine and Benicio. He is also survived by his sister Marilyn Kirby; his brother Chuck Messick; his sister Carol Howell and their families; and many extended family members. A celebration of his life will be held on April 27, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Sutter Youth Organization Building, 7740 House Road, in Sutter, CA.
