Lawrence E. Gilbert

CHILLICOTHE: Lawrence E. Gilbert, 78, of Chillicothe, died 8:37 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013 at his residence following a brief illness.

He was born October 10, 1934, in Chillicothe, to the late Lowell E. and Marjorie Throckmorton Gilbert. On July 27 1974, he married the former Judith M. Hunt who survives.

Also surviving are children, Lora (Mark) Skaggs and Lawrence "Eddy" Gilbert, both of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Zachary C. Skaggs, Chelsea D. Skaggs and Jackson E. Gilbert; a sister-in-law, Wilma Gilbert, of Chillicothe; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Tracy Lee Gilbert and a brother Jack Gilbert.

Lawrence retired from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ross County Probation Department. He was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Scioto Lodge #6 F&AM, Aladdin Temple Shrine Valley of Columbus, Ross County Shrine Club, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Shriners International, B.P.O.E. Lodge #52 and the Ohio Highway Patrol Retirees' Association. Lawrence served in the U.S. Army.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Carol Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday where there will be a Masonic Service at 7 p.m.

Geneva and I were saddened by Larry's passing. Our condolences to you all.
Larry was our former neighbor on Mill St. I was proud to have him for a friend and brother lawman. May he now rest in the peace that he earned.

Larry, my late brother, Bill, Darrell Cottrill, Ron McRoberts and assorted other miscreants played 'spinner' baseball in the early 50's; softball at Poland Park; and euchre at Jerrys. Lost touch after leaving Chillicothe in 1954. Sorry to hear--my best to the family.
