Margaret Louise Ortman Black

CHILLICOTHE: Our mother, Margaret Louise Ortman Black (80), passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2013, in Westmoreland Place following an extended illness.

She was born May 27, 1932 to the late Donald E. and Henrietta Miller Ortman in Chillicothe, Ohio, where she lived most of her life. She was extremely proud of the long line of Ortmans who have resided in Ross County for 150 years.

Marge had a sharp wit, generous spirit, and a deep faith in the Lord. She was known by her friends and loved ones for her keen interest in astronomy and science fiction. An avid watcher of programs from Nova to Star Trek, Margaret was fascinated by the cosmos and its beauty. She was also a big football fan. She never missed watching a Buckeye game or Bengal game! She was a friend to animals and never met a dog she didn't like. Her flower garden was a joy to see.

She enjoyed her years working at Model Dairy and Velvet Ice Cream, but had the most fun working at McDonalds after her retirement.

She was a member of Salem Church and Xi Delta Rho sorority.

Surviving are her daughter, Cheri (James) Lindner of College Station, TX; son, Seth Black (special friend, Jodi Brown) of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Taylor and Collin Black, Alec and Nicholas Lindner; a brother, Robert (Janet) Ortman of Columbus; nephews, Scott (Carol) Ortman, of Galena, OH, Jeff (Erin) Ortman of Hilliard, OH; several great nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Lisa Charney.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2013 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Mr. Chris Brown officiating. Friends may call at Ware's on Sunday, January 27 from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a hospice of one's choice.
