CHILLICOTHE: Samuel T. Heaton, 75, of Chillicothe, died 5:22 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013 in the Chillicothe VA Medical Center following an extended illness.

He was born August 5, 1938, in Ross County, to the late Samuel and Jane Williamson Heaton. On January 3, 1992, he married the former Bonnie Mick who survives.

Also surviving are stepchildren, Rick (Cindy) Fletcher, of Greenfield, Christopher (Brenda) Fletcher and Robert (Taresa) Fletcher, both of Chillicothe; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brothers, Glenn "Marty" (Sherrie) Heaton, of Russellville, AK; Rick Jones, Dennis Harmon and Herb (Jeannie) Harmon, all of Greenfield; sisters, Marietta (Jim) Harvey, Betty Harmon and Patsy Harmon, all of Greenfield; numerous nieces and nephews; four sisters-in-law. In addition to his parents, Samuel was predeceased by a step daughter, Becky Mitchell; in-laws, William and Ollie Mick; and 4 nephews.

Samuel served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member and Past Commander of VFW Post 108 and was also a member of American Legion Post 62 and AMVETS Post 4. Samuel was a founding member of the VFW Color Guard. He worked for the Chillicothe VA Medical Center and also for the Chillicothe Gazette. Samuel was a member of Allen Chapel church in Pike County.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013 in Greenlawn Cemetery's, Soldier Square, with Pastor Donald Mundy officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW Color Guard and the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the VFW Color Guard and Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Checks should be made to VFW Post 108 and sent in c/o Ray Schinkle to 75 Amberside Drive Chillicothe, Ohio 45601.
