It is with the utmost sadness and regret the family of Derek Steadwell of Thunder Bay, announce his sudden passing on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at the age of 69. Derek (Dork) was born in Fort William and grew up on Piper Avenue. He played hockey for the Elks Minor and Fort William Canadians under the leadership of Mickey Hennessy. He attended Fort William Collegiate until starting his career at Ontario Hydro at the tender age of 17, from which he retired as Line Supervisor in 1991 after 35 years of service. Derek continued working for various line contractors including Hydro One Remote Communities until age 65. He was an avid NASCAR fan, football fan and a regular participant in the Thursday night Hydro meetings and his recent project finishing his camp at Crow Lake, where he was his happiest. Survived by wife Rosemary, mother Dorothy, brother Robbie (Fay), brothers-in-law Edward Richard (Wendy), Slip Richard (Tracy), Dac Richard (Cheryl), Louie Richard (Lauren) and sister-in-law Jan Hlady (Bill). Chosen sons Gordie Adams and Mike Gicuk, nephews Michael (Shelley), Cameron (Lisa), and John (Fil) Steadwell, Jason (Kelly), Keegan and Carson Richard and niece Lorna (Reynald) Tougas and several great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by father Albert (Bert), father-in-law and mother-in-law Frank (Pop) and Gwen Richard, brother-in-law Fred Richard and nephew Derek Steadwell. Cremation has take place and Memorial Services will be held on Friday, February 15, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at First Church United, 201 East Brock Street , with private family internment to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Hope Rescue, Northern Dog Lady or charity of your choice.
