Angelo Mauro Obituary

Mr. Angelo Mauro, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at his home on Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Angelo was born in Port Arthur, Ontario on March 16th, 1922 to Marietta and Arthur Mauro. He was a WWII vet, serving four years overseas, and was a long standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He owned and operated popular restaurants in Port Arthur and later Thunder Bay for over 35 years, enjoying the camaraderie he developed with generations of customers. Angelo was very interested in politics, having served as an Alderman for the City of Port Arthur, as well as serving as deputy-mayor under Saul Laskin. He was very proud of his Italian heritage as seen through his membership and support of the Italian Mutual Benevolent Society for over 50 years. Angelo was predeceased by his parents, his wife Vera and his brother Joseph. He is survived by his sisters Anne Pratz, Lucy Maki and Gloria Mauro, his brother Arthur (Naomi) Mauro, his daughters Marilyn (Gary) Heritage, Marietta (John) Muir and Angela (Roger) Ranieri, grandchildren Wendy, Kim, John, Anina and Melissa, and great-grandchildren Jonathan, Jacob, Lukas, Becka, Tessa Ray, Larkin, Layne and David Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Vergidis and the staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital Cancer Centre for their care and support through Angelo's long term battle with a blood disorder. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 31st when family and friends will gather for in St. Andrew's R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. , celebrated by Fr. Luigi Filippini. Interment will be in the family plot in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Following the services a reception will be held in the Sargent Family Reception Centre. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street with Prayers beginning at 7:00 p.m. As expressions of sympathy the family respectfully request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Red Cross Blood Services, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, or to St. Andrew's R.C.
