Mr. Ivar Johansen, age 94 years, a resident of Dawson Court, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, August 25, 2003. Ivar was born in Verdal, Norway on October 2, 1908 and came to Port Arthur in 1925. He first worked with the Lake Boats, later working in the bush for many years and his final job was with the Amethyst Mine. Ivar was a lifetime member of the Scandinavian Home Society. He has no immediate family remaining in Thunder Bay or Norway, but he was was well known on Bay Street where he spent much of his time at his favorite place on the bench outside of the Hoito. Ivar was very happy spending his last years at Dawson Court where he said he never had it so good. Everyone there was so friendly to him and the food was very good. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 29th at 10:00 a.m. in the Dawson Court Auditorium with Pastor Matthew Diegel officiating.
