DESMOND CULLEN Obituary

DESMOND "DES" CULLEN
Desmond (Des) Cullen passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay on August 17, 2025, after a year-long battle with cancer.

Born and raised in Cambridge, Ontario, Des was the beloved brother of Maeve Cullen (Bill Corcoran), Aideen Nabigon, and John Cullen (Doris). He was a cherished uncle to Jordan, John, and Ashley, and a proud great-uncle to Henley. He is predeceased by his parents, John and Marian Cullen. Des leaves behind a wide circle of friends who will deeply miss him.

Des graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Geology from Lakehead University in 1988 and dedicated his career to the field of geology, a profession he loved and excelled in throughout his life. He took great pride in building his home in Kaministiquia, where, with his friends and neighbours, he enjoyed the beauty and independence of northern life.

He will be remembered by his family, friends, and colleagues for his quiet strength, sharp wit, and unwavering kindness.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who supported Des during his illness.

Family, friends, and neighbours are invited to gather at 166 Silver Falls Road in Kaministiquia on Friday, August 22, at 3:00 p.m., where we will raise a glass and share memories of Des.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Hospital in Thunder Bay, Regional Cancer Care Northwest at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, or a Charity of Your Choice.
