Georgina Masson Obituary

We are sad to announce the passing of my mother, Georgina "Ena" Masson. Named for her father, George Pirie, she was raised in the harbour area of Aberdeen, near a place called Foot Dee (Fittie), where she played on the beaches near the promenade as a child. A survivor of the bombings of World War Two, she told stories about the raids on the industrial areas of Aberdeen, some of which were very close to home. She and her family were evacuated to the countryside for a time when their home suffered bomb damage. She emigrated from Scotland in the late fifties sailing on the Sylvania with my brother and I to meet my father who was working for what was then Thunder Bay Telephone in Thunder Bay. She then began work at St. Paul's Anglican Church to begin her life in Canada. Ena worked hard all of her life to provide for her family and was proud of her career at the Thunder Bay Library. Stan and I travelled home from our beloved home in Mezcales, Mexico, arriving on Monday evening to see my Mum who had been ill. I saw her and we said our goodbyes, she was lucid and was so glad to see me. We repositioned her and she settled to sleep. The next day her great granddaughter Hope visited and brought her Gram the sparkly earrings she requested to match her necklace. Over her last few days her other great grandchildren Mason, Mitchell and Callum came to visit and wished her well on her journey 2 months after her 95th birthday. She will be meeting up with my Dad, my brother David, and our late son-in-law David. Stan and I wouldn't have been able to spend so many winters away without the help of Ian, his wife Kim and our daughter Fiona who took good care of Grandma. Georgie lived in her own home up until the last year and a half ago with the help of Marley her social worker and Nancy her housekeeper. Survived by her sister Dorothy Hyndman in North Bay, daughter Marilyn (Stan) Couch, nephew Michael (Ruth) Hyndman in North Bay, grandchildren Ian (Kim) Couch and Fiona Duncan and great grandchildren Cody, Mitchell, Mason, Hope, and Callum. Other relatives survive in B.C. and Scotland. As a family we would like to thank the team at Southbridge Pinewood for keeping her safe. We made the right choice...You people are the best. Last but not least I have to say thank you to Stan who was by my side through the last few years and gave me the support that I needed so much....Hugs to my best friend!!! A celebration of Life will be held at an undetermined date.
