Anita Roy Obituary

February 15, 1906 - January 26, 2008 Anita passed away peacefully in hospital after a brief illness on Saturday, January 26, 2008, twenty days shy of her 102nd birthday. Anita was born in Fort Frances, Ontario on February 15, 1906 the 7th of 11 children born to Octave and Amanda Jalbert (nee DeChamplain). She received her elementary education in Fort Frances, her secondary schooling at St. Joseph's Academy in Winnipeg and her teacher's diploma from the Normal School of the University of Ottawa. Anita's teaching career prior to her marriage was in Northern Ontario , and with the Port Arthur Separate School Board from 1957 until 1964, principally at St. Joseph's School. She married her loving husband Antonio Roy in August 1940. Anita was a loving and generous person dedicated to her family, her parish and her community. Besides raising 3 daughters and helping them fulfill their life ambitions she was an educator for many years and served her parish for many years as an organist, music leader, member and former President of the Catholic Women's League, parish historian, founder of the Senior's Club and volunteer whenever needed. Her greatest joy was the celebration of her 100th birthday with her family and friends at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in 2006. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were all precious to her. Besides her many friends, Anita leaves to mourn her daughters Denise Terpstra (John Cope) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Lucille Roy (Joe Hewitson) of Montreal, Quebec and Louise Plante (Raymond) of Bobcageon, Ontario. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren: Dan (Eileen) Terpstra, Monique (Caleb) Strong, Renee Terpstra (David Karasiewicz), Marcel (Kelly) Terpstra, Andre Terpstra, Lise Anne (Laurent) Gilbert and Sean, Chantal, Darryl and Jamie Hewitson; great grandchildren: Angus, Ainsley, Ciel, Max, Sam and Nicolas. Predeceased by her parents; husband Antonio in March 1964; all of her siblings: Wilfrid, Georges, Fr. Leon, OMI, Fr. Marcel, Fr. Julien, OMI, Louise (sfm), Adelaide (Sr. Louise), Leona, Marie-Ange and Therese. The family would like to thank all of the relatives, parishioners and friends who have helped Anita to live such a long fruitful life, especially Monique, John and Gloria Cyr, Fr. Santi and Fr. Rizzi, and all the doctors and staff of the Regional Hospital, most recently Dr. Davis. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Anita Roy will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2008 leaving the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma at 9:50 AM to St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church for Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow in the family plot at St. Andrew's R.C. Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening after 5:00 PM in the EVEREST CHAPEL with Vigil Prayers offered at 8:00 PM.
