Mae Grottenberg Obituary
Mae Charlotte Grottenberg (Emes) passed away peacefully on November 30, 2004 in Vernon, BC, surrounded by her loving family.Mae was born on July 16, 1912 in Middlechurch Manitoba. She grew up in Sprague and graduated from Teachers' College in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her teaching career began in one room schoolhouses in Manitoba and continued in Thunder Bay, Ont for over 35 years.Many of her teaching years were devoted to Home Instruction of sick children. She retired from teaching in 1972 as Guidance Counsellor of Gron Morgan High School. On July 16, 1938 Mae married her beloved Melvin Edward Grottenberg in Port Arthur. During their retirement Mae and Melvin enjoyed many wonderful summers at "the lake" and winters in Texas.Mae loved music and delighted everyone, all her life, with her joyful violin. Mae is survived by her husband of 66 years, Melvin, now residing inVernon BC, daughter Ila (Perry) Dagsvik of Red Deer Alberta, son Bert (Darlene) Grottenberg of Vernon, BC and daughter Marilyn (Paddy) Arthur of Abbotsford BC. She is survived by 6 beloved grandchildren, Devin Arthur, Erik Dagsvik, Perry G. Dagsvik, Curtis Grottenberg, Peter Grottenberg and Kerri Mae Grottenberg and 3 great grandchildren, Erika Mae, Krista Lee and Nikolas. Also surviving are brothers, Joe and Lorne Emes and sister Nonie Thomson and she was predeceased by brothers Tom, George and Bruce Emes. Sincere thanks to the staff of Pioneer Ridge, 4th floor and to Jackie McDonald who provided such loving care to our entire family. A celebration of Mae's life will be held in Vernon at a later date.Mae will be remembered and loved always by her entire family and all those whose lives she touched.
