Richard Johnstone Obituary

Mr. Richard Johnstone aged 70 passed away Saturday September 19th, 2009, after a brief illness in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Richard spent the majority of his working life as a Millwright with the former Great Lakes Paper Mill (Bowater). During his tenure at Great Lakes Paper he was also the President of The Communications Energy and Paper workers Union, Local 39. Upon retirement he moved west and settled in Abbotsford, B.C. where he lived until his death. In his children's younger years he was heavily involved in Port Arthur Little League and Carrick Minor Hockey. Richard was also an avid camper, along with family and friends they travelled to Provincial Parks all over Ontario and Manitoba. Richard is survived by his two sons, Brad Johnstone (Carolyn) and Ian Johnstone (April) and four grandchildren: Mitchell and Nicole Johnstone, Alex and Kylee Johnstone. He is also survived by his sisters Grace Giesbrecht (Dan), Jean Lightfoot (John) of British Columbia and his brother Don Johnstone (Martha) of Thunder Bay as well as numerous nieces and nephews. As were his final wishes, cremation will take place followed by a family gathering in Abbotsford B.C."
