Verna Bailey Obituary

VERNA CAROLYN BAILEY (nee SHARP) Peacefully passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011, age 73, at Credit Valley Hospital after a brave and determined battle against lung cancer. Predeceased by parents Alma & Albert Sharp, Thunder Bay and brother Barry, Vancouver. Loving and dedicated wife to Jim for 52 years. Fondly nicknamed "Helper", "Nurse Ratchet", and "The General"! A true matriarch for the family, she was a devoted, caring mother and extremely proud of daughters Carol, Diana (Kirkpatrick), Lauren (Rodrigues), Son-in-law Arthur and Grandchildren Jessica, Michael, Alexander, Christopher, and David. Will be sadly missed by her sister Marguerite Gander (husband Lorne), brother Arnold Sharp (wife Nicole), sister-in-law Diana Midwinter, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Also missed by her sorority sisters in Beta Sigma Phi where she was honoured for 50 years of service in 2007, her many friends at South Common Community Centre-Fitness and many family friends. Graduate of FWCI and North Bay Teacher's College. Taught for 31 years (retired 1985) at Isabella School, Fort William; Huttonville Public School; Russell Langmaid, Streetsville. Received her BSc from U of T in 1972 and was 1st valedictorian for the Erindale Campus graduating class. Perfectionist at her main interests which included family, cottage at Pike Bay, gardening, baking, cleaning 2 residences and the care & guidance to "My Kids and Grandkids". Friends may call at the Turner & Porter - "Neweduk-Erin Mills" Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. W., Mississauga (just east of Erin Mills Pkwy) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday. Celebration of Life to be held at in the Chapel on Wednesday, March 9th at 11 a.m. Interment Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army or Lung Cancer Canada would be appreciated by the family.Turner & Porter"
