Victor Gionet Obituary

(1930 – 2018)

It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Victor Gionet of Marathon, Ontario on March 16, 2018. He was born on May 3, 1930 in Bertrand, N.B. He was the son of the late Richard and late Malvina (Godin) Gionet. He was one of 13 children. As a young man arriving in Marathon in 1948, he began working on highway construction westward from Marathon to Wolf Camp Lake for his brother Gerry's company; then as a taxi driver for the late Emile Charest Sr. A few years later he began his career as a Class “A” carpenter for the local pulp and paper mill until he retired. He later moved to Blind River for a number of years but returned to Marathon to be nearer to his family and friends. Many will remember him for his “handyman ways” of helping others. Vic had the gift of gab and enjoyed afternoon coffee breaks at A&W with the regulars. He was a proud family man and everyone's friend. He enjoyed playing cards, was an avid dog lover, had a great sense of humour, and was a practical joker. He is survived by his wife Lucienne Lanteigne of Marathon, Baselice (“Buzz”) Gionet mother of his children, of Thunder Bay, Rose Marie (J.T. “Bingo” Comeau) of Marathon, Yvette (Dennis Kloepfer) of Thunder Bay, Muriel (Ted Schintz) of Marathon, and Raymond (Laura) Gionet of Schreiber. He is also survived by his grandchildren Natacha Roy (late Stephane Bertrand), Spruce Schintz (Helen Jones), Ryan (Amanda) Kloepfer, Crystal Schintz (Andrew Kerr), Riley Kloepfer (Tessa Gushulak), Amber Gionet, and Connor Gionet, his 6 great grandchildren, brothers Normand and Eudore and sister Rita. He is
also survived by his stepson Robert (Sharon) Lanteigne of Marathon, step-grandchildren Rae-Lyn Lanteigne and Kaiden Lanteigne. He was predeceased by his parents, 9 siblings, son Pierre, Noreen Gionet (his second wife), and his grandson Stephan Gionet. At his request, he has been cremated and there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Wilson Memorial General Hospital or the Marathon Humane Society.

He will be sadly missed
by everyone.
