George Sewell Bacon, 69, of Crystal River, passed into heaven on April 2, 2021 due to complications of COVID at Citrus Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bangor, ME November 5, 1951 and grew up in Hampden, ME. He graduated high school from Hampden Academy, and earned a BS from University of Maine in Orono, and an M.Ed. In Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University.
A well loved, retired science educator, George taught at Crystal River High School for more than 35 years. As a member of Citrus County Education Association, he served as President and on the Bargaining Team, representing Citrus County in United Uniserv.
He was a member of Crystal River United Methodist Church, where he sang on their Praise Team for more than 25 years, and served on many committees for the past 40 years. George was also committed to the Aldersgate Emmaus Community of Florida. He also loved being a part of the Inverness Baptist men's group that met on Tuesday mornings. He was a past member of Goldwing Road Riders Association. A veteran of the Army National Guard in Bangor, ME, he served for 10 years as a
helicopter medic, and followed that tradition as a member of the Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department.
George was preceded in his death by his parents, Robert and Mary Bacon; his step-son, Lukas Hammond; and brother-in-law, Paul Williams.
He is survived by his wife Nancy; daughter, Mary Ellen Bacon (Ethan Moore);step-son, Jesse Hammond (Brittany); sister, Dr. Judith Williams (Robert Taylor); nephew, David Williams (Danielle); niece, Jahnne Velez, and great nieces, Gwendolyn Williams and Xuly Velez.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Crystal River United Methodist Church on April 10, 2021 at 11:00 am, with family visitation from 10-11:00 am. This service will also be streamed on the church's website for those who are unable to attend, (https://www.crumc.com).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Crystal River United Methodist Church and the Bright Beginnings Learning Academy (https://www.crumc.com), or Aldersgate Emmaus (https://www.aldersgateemmaus.org), or for Crystal River High School Health Academy at http://www.citruseducation.org/ in memory of George Bacon, and specify for the health academy. These were all George's desires.
Arrangements are under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home, Crystal River, Florida.

Mr.Bacon was the Best teacher I had in high school in the mid 80’s. He was so awesome always made learning fun and always always always made us laugh! He was the best with a personality that lit up a room. God bless you Mr.Bacon I’ll never forget you. Glory to God for your spirit was Awesome!
