Mary Elizabeth Cunningham, age 98, passed away on April 2, 2018, at Hospice House in Lecanto FL. She was born Dec 27, 1919, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Arthur and Jeannette Schenck. She was married for 52 years to Rodney H. Cunningham, who passed away in 1992.
Mary worked outside the home from the time she was a girl. Her initial schooling was secretarial, but her dedication and hard work made her an invaluable employee in all aspects of office work, including bookkeeping and tax preparation. In 1976, she went to work as a bookkeeper for a fledgling church and its young pastor in Columbus, Ohio. For the next 30 years, she loved her work at this small church that grew into the internationally known megachurch, World Harvest Church.
In 2006 at age 87, she decided it was time to retire, and she moved to Dunnellon, FL to be near her daughter. Since 2016, she has lived at Cedar Creek Assisted Living Residence in Crystal River. In addition to working full time, she was very active in Eastern Star for more than 50 years, serving in various leadership positions, including Worthy Matron. In retirement, she has enjoyed volunteering at her church and gifting friends, family, and most anyone she met with handmade crochet and knitted items.
She has been a lifelong devout Christian, studying her Bible daily, and sharing the Word through her kindness, generosity, and joyful and loving spirit. She has touched the lives of more people than we can count. If there was ever a person who represented the best in humanity, it was Mary.
She will be sorely missed by her brother Don Schenck and his wife Barbara of Cincinnati, OH; her son David Cunningham and wife Lynn of Childersburg, AL; daughter Judy Tudor of Dunnellon, FL; Bud Clements of Rochester, NY; grandchildren Brandy and Kyle Williamson of Columbus, OH; and scores of loving friends and relatives. In addition to her husband Rodney, Mary was preceded in death by her brother Dick Schenck, and sisters Gertrude Ross and Lillian Oswalt.
Funeral services will be held at Evans Funeral Home 4171 E Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH at 2 pm Tuesday, April 10th, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, PO Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL, 34464 (; World Harvest Church; or Cedar Creek Assisted Living Residence, Crystal River, Fl.
