Mark DINKELACKER Obituary

DINKELACKER

Mark Raymond, 61, passed away in his home on Friday, Februrary 22, 2013

. Mark was the beloved father of two daughters, Heidi and Louise Dinkelacker, son of Kathryn and the late Raymond Dinkelacker and the brother of the late Marian Payne.

Mark, a veteran of the United States Navy, retired reference associate of the University of Cincinnati, was a lover of books, ideas and sharing his wealth of knowledge and experiences with those closest to him. His sense of humor and love of life's curiosities and incongruities, generous nature and infallible sense of humor brought laughter and smiles at the least likely times to those that knew and loved him.

Mark will be remembered as a free spirit full of spontaneity and a zest for living that brought out the inner child in everyone.

Mark was a lifelong musician and lover of music, playing the saxaphone and clarinet locally since the age of fourteen and throughout his life with names such as Frankie Valli and Natalie Cole. His passion for jazz touched his family and friends, his consummate audience throughout the house and at various performances.

As a most loved father, Mark will be remembered for knowing how to bring the best out of his two daughters; for trips in the woods to hunt for fossils, fishing on a moments notice and tours through the unknown and lost spots of the Queen City. He was a giver of gifts of immense value that were priceless and embracing the eccentric. He taught them about a love of learning and books, untold stories, the importance of being curious and approaching life with all the passion one can muster. "Marco Magnifico" will forever be remembered and cherished by his family for his pure and unadulterated individuality.

There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Mark's favorite charity, The St. Joseph Orphanage at 5400 Edalbert Drive, Cincinnati, OH 45239.

Memories and Condolences

Not sure what to say?

It was with a deep sense of sadness that I read about Mark's passing. Mark 'Dink' was a shipmate of mine while we were stationed on Treasure Island Naval Base. We were both musicians - saxophone players. I never reconnected with Mark after our discharge, but his indominable spirit and sense of humor made a lifelong impression on me at that very young age. I have often thought about reconnecting with him but life seemed to get in the way. He will be missed - and our brief, but significant friendship will carry on in my memories as long as I am walking the earth.

I knew Mark from going to school with him at Greenhills. I was lucky to keep track of him for many years after graduation. He always had a story and was always positive about life's journey. His creative spirit will be missed in this world. Go in Peace....

I was so sad to learn of the passing of Mark. Heidi and Louise, my heart goes out to you and to your grandmother. This is one of the most beautiful obituaries I have ever read and it captures Mark's indomitable spirit so very well. When I came to the law school back in 1986 and met Mark we realized we had a connection. He grew up next door to Mac Loos, one of the great loves of my life. We always shared a special bond, and above anything in life he loved you both so much. He always told great stories about you and was so very proud of both of you. He also told great stories of his Mom who he loved very much. A number of the professors took great advantage of Mark's storehouse of knowledge and his ability to find absolutely anything. I am so very sorry for your loss of such a great man.
