Bruce Evans Obituary

Bruce Evans

Cadillac, MI - Bruce Tyler Evans, 79, passed on September 23, 2020. Devoted husband of the late Mary Josephine "Jodie" Evans (nee Anderson). Father of two sons, Brad (Sophie) and Steven (Georgina); grandfather to Simon, Théo, Ian and Tyler; and brother to Barry (Judy) and the late Burt (Terry). He is also survived by dear family and friends, especially Sheryl Blanchard of Cadillac, Michigan. Born in Cincinnati, the son of the late Tracy Warren and Dorothy Rebecca (nee Burton) Evans. An architect, Bruce served on the faculty of the University of Cincinnati, where he helped develop the cooperative education program for the College of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning. Upon retirement, he moved to Cadillac, where he cared for Jodie and pursued his love of fishing, the outdoors, and watercolor painting. He moved to Aventura, Florida, in January of this year.

Due to the pandemic, the family will be holding a private memorial service at Spring Grove Cemetery on Saturday, October 3. There will be a viewing, without family present, at Elden Good Chapel in Hyde Park, 2620 Erie Avenue, on Friday, October 2 from 4 to 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts in his honor be made to the DayBreak Adult Day Center in Cadillac, Michigan (http://wexfordcoa.org/daybreak-adult-day-center/).

Hey Bruce: I am still in shock, and think of you often, especially in fall when I think of students returning to school. We shared that 4 times a year, advising the smartest and most creative in the co-op program. They impressed you, yet I was impressed by you, how you devoted your time and heartfelt and nurturing guidance to them. A gift intended to last a lifetime. I wish we could still meet for lunch and share our common interest in the joy of the watercolor painting. You had the designer's eye and artist's spirit. I know your art has inspired others as well. Rest well and I'll be back. DAN CHURCH
Had to add our acquaintance was as a school mate HS and UC; Friend; Work, at UC PPD; and UC Frat. Very well rounded. Always a gentleman.

I am saddened to hear of Bruce's passing. I know he will be greatly missed by family and especially his loving friend Sheryl. Bruce was a true friend and a true gentleman, in every way and every day. He was delightful to work with at UC in the Professional Practice Division where our paths crossed fortuitously when I joined the faculty for a few years. We had been high school and college fraternity brothers, and his interest in the study of Architecture as a UC student influenced me to attend UC as well and become an Architect. His manner and commitment to assisting students to realize and pursue their aspirations was to be admired. He found his place and those budding architectural students that crossed his threshhold were as fortunate as I to meet such a fine man, and friend for life. Dan Church, Architect/Planner, UC Architecture 1967.
