Clara Catherine "Katie" (Overholt) WHITEHOUSE Obituary


Katie (Clara Catherine) Whitehouse, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Wesley Glen Retirement Community. Born March 22, 1923 to Dora and Virgil Overholt of Columbus, OH. Graduated from North High School, Class of '41, and completed a degree in social work at The Ohio State University. Following her marriage to Harry Whitehouse, she moved to Cincinnati, OH where she raised her three daughters, served many years as a Girl Scout leader and was active in the North College Hill Methodist Church. Katie enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting, flower gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her homemade applesauce, barbecue, and caramel corn were the best. Katie had a heart for making people of all ages feel welcome. Her smile went with her everywhere, along with her quick laughter, brightening many lives. Preceded in death by husband, Harry S. Whitehouse; brother, David Overholt. Survived by loving daughters, Linda (James) Pace of Columbus, Carol Tyx of Iowa City, IA, Janet (Tony) DeOrio of Farmington, MI; grandchildren, Brent Pace, Derik (Misty) Pace, Daniel (Laura Nikstad) Tyx, Samuel Tyx, Drew, Scott and Allison DeOrio; great-grandchildren; Benjamin Byrd and Ana Gloria Tyx. Katie was also Granny to Jessie and Tom Williams. Special thanks to Dr. Susan Parsons, HomeReach Hospice, and the many caring staff at Wesley Glen Special Care Unit. Burial Service 12 Noon, Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Arlington Memorial Gardens, 2145 Compton Rd., Cincinnati, OH. A celebration of Katie's life will be held 1:00pm Sunday at Wesley Glen, 5155 N. High St., Columbus, OH in the Longworth Auditorium. All are welcome after the service to join the family in the Ravine Room. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Katie can be made to New Life United Methodist Church, Community Outreach Programs, 25 West 5th Avenue, Columbus, OH, 43201.
