Edward Joseph, Age 87, of Osprey, Fl, formerly of Cincinnati, passed away peacefully on December 31st . Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Preceded in death by parents, Edward and Bernadine and his sister Mary. Survived by loving wife of 62 years Janet; children Edward Meyer Jr. (Peg I), Renie Waltke (Gene), Peter Meyer (Barb), Jan Jones (David), David Meyer (MaryAnn), Richard Meyer (Peg II), Robert Meyer (Sheila); sister Bernadette, brothers Bernard and Alvin; grandchildren, Eric, Brian, Katie, Amy, Brad, Scott, Melissa, Jennifer, Annie, Chris, Joe, Cally, Molly, Ryan, Erin and Sean; great-grandchildren Lucas, Kajsa, Claire, James, Gavin, Gabriella and Asa. Ed attended St. Clement Grade School in St. Bernard, OH then St. Francis Seminary for one and a half years before graduating from Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati OH in 1942. On March 27, 1943 Ed voluntarily enlisted in the US Navel Reserve. He served his country from 1943-1945 as a Motor Machinist Mate 3rd Class. His time was spent attached to Flotilla 5 in the South Pacific on both LCT and LST's. Ed was honorably discharged on February 12, 1946 with the Victory Ribbon and Asiatic-Pacific Area Service Ribbon. Later in 1946 Ed began his civilian career with United Parcel Service. Ed advanced at UPS from truck loader to package delivery driver to District Manager. Throughout Ed's career he spent time in Ohio, Illinois and Minnesota. His 39 year career ended in February 1985 when he retired as the District Manager of Northern Ohio. Thirty-one years of his career were as a UPS partner and valued mentor. While at UPS as a District Manager, Ed served as an active participant in the Council on Human Relations in Cleveland, the Martin de Porres Center and United Way. Ed had a passion for his family, travel and education. Ed established The Edward J. Meyer Scholarship Fund at Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati and was awarded Roger Bacon's Astrolabe Award for outstanding alumni in 1992. Ed's family would like to thank all their family and friends for their support and encouragement over the past few months. The family also extends their heartfelt thanks for the excellent care given by Age Well Homecare during his illness. Visitation will be held 5 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4th at Washburn McReavy Funeral Home, 7625 Mitchell Rd, Eden Prairie, MN. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 5th at Annunciation Catholic Church, 509 West 54th St, Minneapolis, MN. Visitation will be held one hour before service. Private internment at Lakewood Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati or The Page Education Foundation in Minneapolis.
