Ernest Foulkes Obituary
Cincinnati - Ernest Foulkes, born 1924, died in Cincinnati on June 15 from complications with ALZ. In his long scientific career, Dr. Foulkes taught at U.C.'s Medical School, where he also was a researcher and director in the U.C. Department of Environmental Health.
He had a love of adventure and outdoor activities including cave exploring and canoeing and had a deep interest in history. As a child in Germany, he and his family were forced to flee for survival, finally welcomed as refugees by Australia. There he attended University and married Valerie Hopton, his wife of more than 60 years. Following further education in Oxford, England, they came to Cincinnati in 1952, where they raised four children and Valerie also pursued her education and taught in U.C.'s English Department. Following Valerie's death in 2006, he found meaning and support in companionship with his close friend, Ursula Moore. He is survived by four children, David, Gabrielle, Brian and Hilary and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. By his wish, his body was donated to U.C.'s Medical School. A private memorial will be held by the family.

Dear Family of Ernest,
My Dad, George Keil, and I shared many meals with Ernest at M.P.Lee. We found that we also shared common ground regarding politics, patriotism, and science. I am so glad I had the chance to meet him. He was a truly remarkable person, and I am very sorry for your loss.
