George "Yatz" Gundrum
Cincinnati - 1949-2019
George "Yatz" Gundrum, age 69, died suddenly on Saturday, January 12, 2019. He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart Gail (nee Custer), his three sons Jason (Holly), Zach and Sean (late Jennifer Maines), and his three daughters Kristin, Cassie (Parker) Niemann and Keady (Scott) Delia, who, despite wearing black and white very well, never got around to joining the convent.
His eight grandchildren will miss him dearly: Nadezhda, Maxwell, Nicholas, Theodore, Ethan, Ben, Nicolette and Gianna, as will his siblings Michael, Gretchen (late Peter Ways), Mary Ann (Bob) Ranz, Lizanne (Chuck) Ingram, and Gabrielle (John) Wadell.
Yatz claimed to graduate from Thomas More College in 1973, though the school has never acknowledged him as an alumnus. For 46 years he co-owned Gundrum Dental Labs in Newtown, where he could be found day or night if he wasn't golfing, enjoying his family or facilitating one of his glad-handing seminars. When it came to dental technology, being the life of the party, and deep thoughts, Yatz was among the best. He worked hard and played hard; through it all he managed to stay one step ahead of the jailer.
A celebration of Yatz's life will be held on Sunday, January 20th, 2pm-6pm (brief program @ 3:30pm) at Pelican's Reef, 7261 Beechmont Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45230.
Yatz loved the water, especially the Florida Keys. In his honor, memorials may be made to help send a young person to Sea Base. https://www.gofundme.com/yatz-for-scouts

When we moved into this neighborhood Gail and Yatz took us in thir arms and made us feel like family. I will dearly miss his waves, his smile and during the snow storms. I pray that his family gets the strength and courage to bear this tremendous loss. I know the pain of loss. I lost my husband a few years back.

I just heard and I am extremely saddened by the news of Yatz's passing. Always at the Hinman meeting in Atlanta, we were grab a beer together and people really believed we were father and son (I'm 6'5")...and he played that up. He was always full of joy and brought such pleasure to all of the people he touched. RIP Yatz! You are in my thoughts and prayers. Ed Zak

My deepest sympathy - I remember Yatz from childhood on Hawthorne Drive in Withamsville. He could ride his bike with 'no hands' for hours (so it seemed).
When my dad (Jim Colonel) died, the Gundrums were wonderful particularly since they had just lost their mother.

Condolences from another lab owner. There is never a good time, or a good reason for an untimely passing. He was a good man...and his passing is a loss to family and community.
