Michael Rohs Obituary

Michael Henry, Sr., Mike, of Cincinnati, passed away on Tuesday, July 26. Mike was born in Cincinnati, OH on October 16, 1934, to Henry and Margaret Rohs, and was the eldest of five siblings. He attended St. Xavier High School and Xavier University, earning a degree in business administration. He was an avid athlete, and excelled at football, swimming, and handball. He also enjoyed playing golf with friends. For a short time, Mike attended Mount St. Mary's Seminary, and while he did not complete his degree, he created long lasting friendships. He attributes his start in investments to William Sena and Fredrick Weller, who would later become his partners. On July 17, 1971, Mike married Diane Brewer, and they had two children. Mike had a knack for people. While at times a man of few words, he had an incredible heart. Quietly and without fanfare, he served his friends, family, his fellow man, and his community, with many acts of kindness. This could be something as simple as putting a good word in to help someone get a job, serving as a Big Brother with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Cincinnati, to sitting on more boards and committees than could be named here, for the care and betterment of our community, such as Mercy Health and Legatus. He asked for no recognition or praise. He believed in people. He believed in their goodness. He took them at their word, and believed in the power of a hand shake, which made him the most loyal and devoted of friends and colleagues. Mike was a man of deep and abiding faith. He attended mass regularly. He prayed daily. He served God and his community devoutly. Mike was also a husband. Diane and he were married for 45 years, and had two children. They were the rock that each built the foundation of their family upon. Mike was a Dad. Diane and he taught their children honor, courage, compassion, love, and strength through their example and commitment to their marriage and their family. Mike is survived by his wife Diane, daughter Amy, son Michael (Angela), grandson Michael, brothers Henry (late Elizabeth) and Thomas (Patricia), sister Kathryn (Thomas Knippenberg), numerous beloved nieces, nephews and god children. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 28, from 4 to 7pm, at Geo. Rohde Funeral Home, 3183 Linwood Avenue. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated with Fr. David Brinkmoeller, Friday, July 29, at 10:00, at St. Mary Church, 2853 Erie Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the charities of your choice. Online condolences may be expressed at
