Patricia Nagel Hughey Obituary
Patricia Nagel Hughey

Westwood - Patricia Nagel Hughey, was born November 10, 1924, is the eighth generation of her family born in Cincinnati. She reared two children with her husband of sixty-three years, the late John David Hughey, in Westwood, the same neighborhood where she had grown up with her parents Doris J. and Henry Nagel. Patricia loved nature—especially gardening and taking long walks in the woods or along northern beaches with her dogs. She was adventurous: for example, in her 50's she took up cross-country skiing and trained her dogs to pull a dogsled—quite an unexpected sight in the snowy streets of Cincinnati. Patricia is a graduate of Hillsdale (Seven Hills School) and the University of Cincinnati, where she became a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, a life-long follower of the Bearcats, and met her future husband. She worked as a chemist during WWII, and served as President of the Westwood Parent-Teachers' Association and as President of the Westwood Garden Club. She volunteered with the Cincinnati Public Schools and was a member of the Westwood First Presbyterian Church, Cincinnati Travel Club, and the Cincinnati Women's Club. Patricia was also proud of being a certified Floral Judge and Master Gardener. Some of her happiest times were spent summering in Charlevoix Michigan, where she enjoyed golfing, fishing, making jam, and—even in her 90's—swimming in the chilly water. Mrs. Hughey passed away on July 10, 2018 at the age of 93. She is survived by her daughters, Holly H. Hughey (David M. Willis) and Bonnie B. Payson; her grandchildren, Justin Edwards, Courtney Payson, Dan W. Willis and Bonnie Christine Willis; and 4 great-grandchildren; her brother, William S. Nagel (Vivian) and the late Henry E. Nagel Jr. (Isabelle) and her sister-in-law, the late Carol Nagel. Visitation Saturday from 9-10 at Cedars of Lebanon Chapel at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45232 where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM. Reception at 11:30 AM in the Mansion at Evergreen Retirement Community, 230 W. Galbraith Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45215. Memorials may be directed to Westwood First Presbyterian Church or the University of Cincinnati.
